  Virtual Meeting

Upcoming Schedule

Most Sundays, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (two hours) Pacific Standard Time, we hold our weekly meeting at the temple in El Monte, California. This meeting offers Tao-oriented presentations from Bill, Carmen and Derek. Currently, Derek is going through the Tao Te Ching in detail, one chapter at a time.

We want to make this meeting available to everyone through the Internet. The technology is still quite new, but thanks to Bill Bunting's efforts, we now have an excellent platform to conduct web-based online virtual meetings.

  Requirements

  1. High-speed Internet connection. You need DSL or cable modem to make it work well. Telephone modem connections are not fast enough.

  2. A web browser that supports Flash. Most web browsers will work just fine, regardless of operating system. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Chrome will all work. In fact, if your browser allows you to watch YouTube videos, then you already have everything you need. As long as you have working speakers, you'll be able to hear the broadcast.

  3. Any operating system will work as long as you satisfy the above two points. Mac OS, Linux, Windows will all work.
  • Web cam and microphone are not requirements. You can always express yourself in the meeting by typing in the message window.

  • You do not need to spend any money beyond the equipment you are already using to read this web page. There is nothing to buy, no subscription or membership fees. The meeting is and will always be free.

  How It Looks

The main workspace on the left is for PowerPoint presentations, web cam videos, and the whiteboard.

Above the wallpaper for the meeting, to the left of the question mark,
you'll see a button where you can indicate your reaction to the presentation.

Click on the image above for the full-size screen shot.

On the right, we have the list of meeting attendees and the message window.

  How to Join

  1. Go to freelists.org/list/taomeeting.

  2. Type in your e-mail address, select "Subscribe" and click on "Go!"

  3. You'll receive a confirmation message in your inbox that says "Request received for list 'taomeeting' via request address." There's no need to reply to this message. You are now part of the mailing list and will receive the weekly password the day before the meeting.

  4. If you run into any problems with the above, you can always contact us through the Tea House to let us know. Bill Bunting will serve as your contact to help you with any questions or issues.

  5. Be sure to check the calendar on the home page to see if there is a meeting scheduled for the Sunday coming up.

  6. Before the day of the meeting, you will receive an e-mail containing a 4-digit meeting password. This password changes every week.

  7. If you are in a different time zone, you may wish to consult a world clock web site to be sure you are online at the right time on the day of the meeting.

  9. Enter your name and optionally your location so others know where you are geographically.

  10. If prompted, enter the 4-digit meeting password from the most recent e-mail.
  • That's it! You should now be able to see and hear the meeting.

  Please Note

  • Important: If the virtual meeting room stalls, hit the Refresh button (F5) and it should fix everything.

  • The internet conference uses Flash technology, so if your PC has many windows open or background downloads, you may experience breaks in audio or video or both.

  • Due to bandwidth limitations, we may not be able to accommodate everyone who wants to join. This means:

1. If there are more attendees than slots available, access will have be first-come-first-serve.

2. We reserve the right to allocate meeting slots to locations with multiple attendees.

3. We may ask that you join with other attendees close to you.
